THE 1964 WIMBLEDON CHAMPIONSHIPS took place over twelve days from Monday 22 June to Saturday 4 July. Play commenced at 2pm each day on all courts, and the Gentlemen’s Singles Final was played on Friday 3 July, with Australia’s ROY EMERSON defeating fellow countryman FRED STOLLE to claim his first Wimbledon singles title. On the final Saturday Brazil’s MARIA BUENO beat Australia’s MARGARET SMITH to clinch her third and last Wimbledon singles success.
