Published in the spring of 1969, the BP YEAR BOOK OF WORLD TENNIS was the forerunner to JOHN BARRETT'S excellent WORLD OF TENNIS yearbooks which were the must-have guides for players and fans from 1969 through to 2001. This first edition was compiled by the BBC's PETER WEST and edited by Barrett, with excellent contributions from esteemed tennis writers DAVID GRAY, LANCE TINGAY, FRANK ROSTRON and REX BELLAMY. In the days before the general "dumbing-down" of press reportage, Gray's article entitled "1968 - A Year of Change" provided intelligent analysis of tennis politics as the game took its first steps into the Open era.
