THE 1939 WIMBLEDON CHAMPIONSHIPS took place over twelve days from Monday 26 June until Saturday 8 July. Play commenced at 2pm each day on all courts, and the Gentlemen’s Singles Final was played on Friday 3 July, when second-seeded Bobby Riggs defeated Elwood Cooke in the final, 2–6, 8–6, 3–6, 6–3, 6–2. On the final Saturday Alice Marble defeated Kay Stammers in the final, 6–2, 6–0.
