THE 1973 WIMBLEDON CHAMPIONSHIPS took place over twelve days from Monday 25 June to Saturday 7 July. Play commenced at 2pm each day on all courts, and the Gentlemen’s Singles Final was played on Friday 6 July, when Jan Kodeš defeated Alex Metreveli in the final, 6–1, 9–8(7–5), 6–3. On the final Saturday Billie Jean King successfully defended her title, defeating Chris Evert in the final, 6–0, 7–5.
